IMPORTANT: Before buying an eBook reader you must determine what books you wish to read and what format they are available in. Remember the VHS vs. Betamax video tape war or the more recent HD DVD vs. Blu-Ray DVD battle? Well the same is happening with eBooks and the format that they are published in.
Why? If manufacturers can get critical mass and own a propritery format then they will make better profits for many years to come than they would if they pursued an open source format. One factor to really consider when choosing an eBook reader is its ability to read many different formats. Otherwise you may not be able to buy a book that you wish to read as it is not available in the format that your eBook reader understands.
The main eBook readers that are available in the market today include:

- Sony Reader
- Kindle eBook reader (the mobile wireless connectivity does not work in the UK)
